Ingredients:
Peanuts/ ground nuts – Raw or fried – 150 gms,
Green chilli – 6 ( spicy ),
Peeled garlic cloves – 6,
Channa dal – 1/4 tsp,
Salt,
Jeera – 1/4 tsp + 1/8 tsp for tadka,
Fried channa dal – 25 gms, ( putnalu ),
Oil – 1 tablesp,
Onion – 1, medium, cut into 1/2 inch chunks,
Tomato – 1 small, sliced fine,
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp,
Urad dal – 1/4 tsp,
Red chilli – 1, broken into pieces,
Curry leaves – few,
Chopped coriander leaves – 2 tsp,
Thick tamarind paste – 3/4 tsp,
Method:
1).Heat a pan ,fry the peanuts till they are well fried giving nice aroma. Remove from pan, cool and discard the outer skin. Put them in small chutney blender.
2).Prick the chillies and fry them till they change colour. Add them also to the blender.
3).Add remaining ingredients – fried dal, jeera, garlic, salt, tamarind paste, little water and blend them into a lightly smooth paste. If the chutney is very thick , add little more water while grinding.
4).Before removing the blender add raw onion pieces, coriander leaves and use pulse twice.
5).Remove the ground chutney into a bowl. Heat a pan with oil, add mustard seeds, dals, red chilli, jeera, curry leaves and fry till mustard crackles and dal changes colour. Now add tomato slices and fry for few seconds. Pour the tadka over the prepared chutney. Mix well and serve.
Tip:
a).You can include the tender staiks of coriander leaves while grinding the chutney. This gives nice aroma and taste to the chutney. I always prefer to do that.
b).If you want you can avoid fried dal.But including this dal gives smoothness to the chutney.
c).Adding raw onion gives nice crunch to the chutney.
d).I already uploaded this recipe few yrs ago, this is updated version.
e).You can replace green chilli with red chilli.
