Tamil Nadu Milk Vada

This is a very simple recipe with minimum ingredients. This crispy vada can be served as snack with evening tea. I was told that It is a traditional recipe of some families.
Raw rice – 1 cup, ( you can use any rice used for cooking ), ( I used measuring cup),
Milk – 1 cup + 1 cup water,
Green chilli – 3 chopped fine,
Ginger – 1/2″ piece chopped fine,
Curry leaves – 5 to 6 chopped fine,
Chopped coriander leaves – 1 Tablesp,
Hing – pinch,
Oil to fry,
Channa Dal – 1 Tablesp, soaked for 30 minutes,
Small fresh coconut pieces – 2 Tsp, ( optional),
1).Wash and soak rice for 10 minutes . Heat milk along with water ,add drained rice and allow rice to boil for few minutes.
2).Remove from flame and let the rice soak in milk for an hour.
3).Grind rice to a fine paste along with hing and salt. . Add chilli, dal, ginger, curry leaves and coriander leaves. Mix well. ( Add coconut pieces if using ).
4).Make round vada and fry till they turn light golden in colour.Remove on a tissue napkin to absorb excess oil if any.
5).Serve these crispy vada along with hot tea.
