Masoor dal chutney

This is a spicy protein rich chutney made with red masoor dal served usually with hot plain rice with a tsp of desi ghee.
Ingredients:
Masoor dal without skin – 150 Gms,
Salt,
Red chilli – 8to 10,(1chilli for tadka),
Peeled garlic – 6,
Jeera – 1/4 Tsp,
Tamarind paste – 1/2 Tsp,
Onion – 1,medium, sliced fine,
Oil – 2 Tablespoons,
Channa dal – 1 Tablesp,
Mustard seeds – 1/4 Tsp,
Curry leaves – few,
Chopped coriander leaves – 1 Tablesp,
Hing – 1/8 Tsp,
Method:
1).Heat a tablesp. Of oil,add jeera, 1 tsp of channa dal,masoor Dal,garlic cloves, few curry leaves and fry till both the dals change colour.Lastly add red chilli and fry for 1/2 minute. Remove and allow to cool.
2).Grind the fried ingredients along with salt into a course powder.Add tamarind paste and to 3 tablespoons of water and blend again into a fine course paste using pulse 2to 3 times. Lastly add chopped coriander leaves use pulse for a second and remove the chutney. If necessary add little more water while grinding.
3).Heat remaining oil, add hing, mustard seeds, remaining channa dal,red chilli and curry leaves. Fry till mustard splutters and dal changes colour. Add onion pieces and fry till they turn soft. Add this to chutney and mix well. Serve this spicy chutney with plain rice along with desi ghee / curd rice.
Tip:
You can add raw onion to the prepared chutney instead of frying. If you like, lastly you can add a small piece of jaggery while grinding.
