Quick white radish sambar in cooker

strong>Ingredients:
Toor dal – 225 Gms,
White radish – 125 Gms, washed, scraped lightly and cut into 1/4″ roundels,
Onion – 2 medium,each cut vertically into 4 to 6 parts,
Green chilli – 2, each slit into two,
Jeera – 1/4 Tsp,
Dhania powder – 1 Tablesp,
Red chilli powder – 3/4 Tsp,
Haldi – 1/8 Tsp,
Red chilli – 1 broken into pieces,
Salt,
Tamarind paste – 1 Tsp mixed with 30 ml. Of water,
Tomato – 2 medium, each cut into 4 to 6 pieces,
Hing – 2 pinch,
Mustard seeds – 1/8 Tsp,
Curry leaves – few,
Chopped coriander leaves – 1 Tablesp,
Oil – 1 Tablesp,
Peeled and crushed garlic cloves – 4 to 5,
Methi seeds – 2 pinch, dry fried, ( this is optional, it is healthy and gives flavour).
Sambar powder – 1/2 Tablesp.
Method:
1).Put toor Dal, radish, onion, green chilli, tomato, haldi, chilli powder, methi seeds, dhania powder and 400 ml of water in pressure cooker. Pressure cook the dal for 3 whistles.
2).When the cooker is cool, open the lid and remove the radish pieces into a plate. Stir the dal with laddle gently ( along with onion and tomato ) so that the dal becomes soft.
3).Return the radish pieces into cooker along with tamarind water, salt, and 100 ml of more water if necessary to make the sambar a little thinner.
4).Again put the cooker on flame, add sambar powder and let the sambar come to boil for 1 min.
5).Heat oil in a tadka pan and prepare tadka with mustard seeds, Red chilli, crushed garlic cloves, hing, jeera and curry leaves. Pour this over sambar. Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves. Remove from flame.
6).Serve this tasty sambar as side dish for plain rice / break fast items like idli, dosa/ upma etc.
