Pesara (Moong dal) pongali in pressure cooker

This is a very simple and quick Andhra traditional recipe often offered as neivedyam (prasadam) to GODS. .Here iam using pressure cooker to prepare this recipe.This pongali/pongal is also served in functions along with other breakfast items like idli and dosa.

Ingredients:

Moong dal with out husk – 125 Gms,

Raw rice – 250 Gms,

Green chillies – 2, chopped fine,

Black pepper corns – 1 Tsp,

Coarse Pepper powder – 1/4 Tsp,(optional),

Jeera – 1 Tsp,

Hing – 1/8 Tsp,

Cashew nut bits – 1Tablesp,

Salt,

Haldi – 1/8 Tsp (optional),

Curry leaves – 8 to 10,

Chopped coriander leaves – 1 Tablesp,

Desi ghee – 2 Tablesp,

Method:

1).Wash dal and rice . soak the both combined for 1/2 hr,

2).Heat ghee in a pressure cooker(preferbly 3 litres).Add hing,jeera,pepper corn ,haldi,nuts,chillies and curry leaves,

3).Fry for few seconds and add drained dal rice mix along with salt.Mix well and fry for 2 min. Add 750 ml of water,

4).Close the cooker and pressure cook for 4 whistles,

5).After steam escapes, remove the lid and sprinkle coriander leaves and pepper powder.Mix and serve with groundnut chutney/coconut chutney

Tip:

Usually pongal is prepared as semisolid type of breakfast.you can reduce the quantity of water according to your taste.
