Pulla Koora

This dish is a sort of tangy yet tasty and spicy sauce like vegetarian side dish for plain rice/dosa/upma/pongal

Ingredients:

Spinach – 2 Cups of chopped leaves

Onion – 1 Medium,chopped fine

Green chillies – 6 to 8

Haldi – 1/8 Tsp

Tomato – 2, Medium,roughly chopped

Dhania powder – 1Tsp

Jeera – 1/2 Tsp

Salt

Oil – 1 Tablesp

Curry patta leaves – 6 to 8

Peeled Garlic cloves – 6

Tamarind paste – 1 Tablesp

Red chillies – 2,broken into pieces

Chopped coriander leaves – 1Tablesp (optional)

Method:

1).Pressure cook spinach with 3/4 th.quantity of the onion pieces,tomato,green chillies,dhania powder,haldi and little water, for 2to3 whistles

2).Remove the lid after steam escaps. Mash and add tamarind paste along with salt. Mix well.

3).Prepare tadka with mustard,jeera,garlic,red chilli, curry leaves and remaining onion.Pour it over the prepared curry and let it be on fire for a min.

4).Remove and serve with Plain rice/dosa/upma/pongal

Tips:

a).You can add a handful of (soaked) ground nuts to cooker along with other ingredients.(No need of mashing them)

b).You can substitute any other greens like Amaranthus/sorrel leaves.Reduce tamarind for sorrel dish.
