
Whole wheat flour 2 cups, about 250 gms,
Salt,
Dry fried course peanut powder – 1 tablesp,
Fried chickpea flour – 1 tablesp,
Ajwain – 1/4 tsp, ( gently crush and add ),
White til – 1 tablesp,
Red chilli powder – 1 and 1/2 tsp,
Haldi – 2 pinch,
Butter/ ghee/ hot oil – 1 and 1/2 tsp,
Hing – 1/8 tsp,
Oil to fry,
Method:
1).Put wheat flour in a cloth and tye securely by putting a knot.Keep the potli in a idli steamer and steam it for 10 to 15 minutes.
2).Allow it to cool, open it, break lumps and grind the powder in a blender to break the lumps if any to get smooth powder.
3).Add all the ingredients( except oil ) to the flour and mix them well. Now add butter / hot oil and again mix throughly with clean hand. Check salt.
4).Prepare a soft, smooth dough ( like chapathi dough ) by adding water in batches. Keep it aside for 5 minutes.
5).Smear little oil to chakli press and 1 star plate. Prepare chakli rounds on a polythene sheet. Drop them one by one (maximum 3 to 4 ) and fry them under medium low flame till they turn light golden. Remove them on to a plate with a kitchen tissue to absorb excess oil if any.
6).Cool and store them in an air tight container.Serve this tasty, crispy snack along with evening tea or coffee.It is a sure hit with kids and elders alike.
Tip:
a).Donot add too much of oil or butter as this results in chakli absorbing more oil.
b).You can increase the quantity of white til and also chilli powder as per your taste.
c).Diabetics also can enjoy it in moderation.
