This vada / gaare is very popular in Andhra region. It is a crunchy urad dal vada prepared with split /whole urad dal without any husk.This vada requires minimum ingredients and it does not absorb oil. There used to be a tradition in olden days that these gaarelu / vada are served with lot of desi ghee along with honey to the newly wed groom when he visits brides house for the first time.
Ingredients:
Urad dal with out husk – 250 Gms,
Salt,
Crushed black pepper – 1/2 TSP,
Oil to fry,
Method:
1).Wash and soak urad dal for 45 min/ 1 hr.Remove 2 to 3 tablesp. Of dal and keep aside.
2).Now blend the dal with salt into a course paste and add the reserved dal. ( No water is added ).
3).Now add the crushed black pepper and mix very well.
4).Make thin round vada and fry under medium low heat till light golden in colour.Remove them on to a kitchen tissue.
5).Serve with coconut chutney or any chutney. We used to enjoy them in our childhood with Velluli karam, and little ghee.
Tip;
a).NO water is used while blending the dal.
b). This is a best snack item for diabetics.
