This dal recipe is very delicious with combination of curds, protein rich toover,moong and channa dals along with flavourful spices. This can be served with hot plain rice/ chapathi/ poori etc
Ingredients:
Toover Dal – 75 Gms,
Skinless split moong dal – 50 Gms,
Channa dal – 1 Tablesp,
Fresh curds – 1 Cup, about 100 ml,
Green chilli – 3 each sliced vertically into two,
Red chilli powder – 1/2 Tsp,
Haldi – A pinch,
Garam masala – 1/4 Tsp,
Jeera – 1/8 Tsp,
Ginger garlic paste – 1/4 Tsp,
Onion – 1, medium, sliced fine,
Tomato – 2, medium, cut into small pieces,
Chopped coriander – 2 Tablespoons,
Cloves – 2, cinnamon – 1/4″ 2 pieces, cardamom – 1,bay leaf – 1,(optional),
Salt,
Oil – 1 Tablespoon + 1 tablesp ghee,
Method:
1).Wash dals ( combined ) and soak for 30 minutes.
2).Pressure cook the dals, with 400 ml of water and haldi for 3 whistles.
3).When the cooker cools down, remove the lid and gently mash the dal with a wooden laddle. Add salt and keep it aside. Blend curds and keep it aside.
4).Heat oil + ghee, add jeera, (cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, and bay leaf if using. . green chillies and onion. Fry till onion becomes pink and soft. Add ginger garlic paste, chilli powder and fry for a min. Add tomato and cook till tomato becomes soft.
5).Add curds, cook for 2 minutes under low flame and add mashed dal and garam masala powder along with 50 ml.water, Continue to cook under low flame for 2 minutes till dal and curds are well blended . Check salt and add chopped coriander.
6).Serve this tasty side dish with breakfast items like poori/ chapathi/ roti/ rice preparations.
Tip
You can use only butter or only ghee instead of oil. Best side dish for diabetics.
