Varan – A Maharashtrian dish

This is a very simple recipe of Maharashtra , very much similar to protein rich plain pappu of Andhra Pradesh.
Ingredients:
Toor dal – 200 Gms,
Salt,
A pinch of haldi.
Method:
1).wash and soak dal for 1/2 hr in 200 mi.of water.
2).Add haldi and another 200 ml of water. Cook it under low flame, till the dal becomes soft and whole water is absorbed ( partially closed with lid ).
3).Add salt and mash with a ladle and remove. Serve hot with little ghee.
Tip:
A).In Andhra this plain dal is enjoyed with avakaya, famous pickle of Andhra Pradesh or in combination with rasam / charu.
B).You can cook it in pressure cooker ( 2 or 3 !itres pressure cooker ) within 10 minutes for 3 whistles.
