Lobiya / black eyed beans / alasanda in Telugu are protein rich legumes. This delicious Kurma / masala curry prepared with these beans is very tasty, healthy and goes very well with break fasts like chapathi/ poori/ rice preparations like jeers rice , kushka etc.
Ingredients:
Lobiya – 200 Gms,soaked for minimum 6 hrs/ over night,
Potato – 1 medium, washed, peeled and cut into 1/2″ cubes, kept immersed in water till use,
Onion – 2 medium, ( one onion cut into small pieces , another made into paste along with ginger and garlic),
Green chilli – 2 cut each vertically into two,
Red chilli powder – 3/4 Tsp,
Haldi – 1/8 Tsp,
Dhania powder – 1 Tablesp,
Ginger and garlic paste – 1 Tsp,
Cloves – 3,Cinnamon 1/4″ pieces – 2, Cardamum – 2,Bay leaf – 1,
Tomato puree – 1 Tablespoons, ( optional), o
Salt,
Oil – 3 Tablespoons,
Khus khus and coconut paste – 1 and 1/2 Tablesp ( khus khus 1/2 tablesp dry fried and added to 1 Tablesp coconut gratings and made into paste),
Chopped coriander leaves – 1 Tablesp,
Method:
1).Heat oil in 3 litres pressure cooker, add cloves, cardamum, Cinnamon, and bay leaf. Stir once and add onion pieces along with chilli pieces. Fry till onion becomes pink.
2).Add ginger garlic onion paste, and fry till raw smell goes. Add tomato puree if using. Fry for a minute,
3).Add haldi, dhania powder, chilli powder and mix well.
4).Add potato cubes, beans along with 300 ml water and salt. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.
5).Open the cooker after steam escapes. Stir the curry and keep it on fire again.
6).Add khus khus coconut paste and mix well. Let it cook for 2 more minutes. If necessary add little water.
7).Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves and remove.
