This chutney is prepared with toor dal. It is protien rich and tasty.
Ingredients:
Toor dal/Kandi pappu (in Telugu) – 150 Gms,
Onion,medium – 1,sliced fine,
Red chilli – 5 + 1,
Jeera – 1/2 Tsp,
Peeled garlic – 6,
Dhania seeds – 1 Tsp,
Urad dal – 1/2 Tsp,
Salt,
Tamarind paste – 1/2 Tsp,
Mustard seeds – 1/2 Tsp,
Curry patta leaves – 6 to 8,
Chopped coriander leaves – 1 Tablesp,
Oil – 1 and 1/2 Tablesp.
Hing – A pinch,
Method:
1).Dry fry toor dal till it is lightly browned and gives nice aroma.Remove on to a plate and keep it aside.
2).In the same pan drizzle few drops of oil and fry jeera,garlic,dhania and (5)red chillies for 1/2 minute.
3).Grind the above ingredients into a course powder with salt.
4).Add tamarind pulp along with little water and run the mixie for few seconds to prepare a paste.
5).Add onion and run the mixie once and remove.
6).Prepare tempering with hing,mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli and curry leaves.Pour it over the prepared chutney and mix it well. 7).Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
8).Serve this chutney with hot plain rice with a dash of desi ghee/ curd rice.
Tip,
You can fry onions in tempering and add to the prepared chutney.But crunchy raw onion tastes better than fried one.
