Yam Kheema Curry
Yam is kanda gadda in telugu ( also called elephant yam) .This is a vegetarian recipe.
Ingredients:
Yam – 250 Gms
Onion – 1 Medium,cut into small pieces
Green chilli- 1 chopped fine
Red chilli powder – 1 Tsp
Dhania powder 1 Tablesp
cloves – 2
cinnamon – 2 ,1/4″pieces
Bay leaf – 1
Salt
Ginger and garlic paste – 1 Tsp
Coconut paste – 1Tablesp
Garam masala – 1/4Tsp
Oil – 3 Tablesp
Chopped coriander – 1 Tablesp
Method:
1).peel,wash and grate yam .Keep it aside (grate just before using )
2).Heat oil , fry cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf for a sec.
3).Add onion,chilli and fry till onion becomes soft.Add ginger garlic paste and fry for a min till raw smell diappears.
4).Add dhania powder, chilli powder, haldi and cook for a min. Add yam gratings,salt and very little water.Cook under low heat till yam becomes tender
5).Add garam masala and coconut paste.Mix well and cook for 2 min.Add little water if the gravy is very thick.
6).Add chopped coriander and remove from fire.
Serve with chapathi/poori/dosa/rice
Tip:
Keep yam pieces (before grating) in thin butter milk with little salt for 20 min.This will lessen the chance of getting uneasy sensation in throat which rarely occurs in some people after consuming kanda.
You can add a handful of boiled fresh peas to the curry for an extra taste.
