Drumsticks in tangy tamarind rasam


100g – boiled drumstick pieces with salt (2 sticks approx)
1&1/2 tsp – oil/ghee
500ml – tamarind water (made with 2 tsp tamarind paste)
1 – small onion, chopped fine
1 tsp – any rasam powder
2 – red chilli, (broken into bits)
1 to 2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed garlic
1 sprig – curry leaves
1 tsp – chopped coriander
1/4 tsp – mustard seeds
Cumin, a pinch
Asafoetida – a pinch
Turmeric powder, a pinch
1 tsp – jaggery, powdered


1.Heat oil/ghee, add mustard seeds, asafoetida, garlic, red chilli, cumin and curry leaves.
2.Fry till the mustard splutters.
3.Add chopped onion and turmeric powder and fry till they become soft.
4.Add boiled drumsticks and tamarind water, salt, rasam powder and jaggery and let it boil for 2 min.
5.Sprinkle chopped coriander and remove from fire.
6.Serve with hot plain rice along with papads
