Aaviri Kudumu (Steamed Urad Dal Dumplings)

Ingredients:

300 g – urad dal, dehusked
1 – green chilli (chopped very fine)
1/2 tsp – jeera (dry fried)
1 tsp – coriander leaves, chopped very fine
salt

Method:

1.Soak urad dal for 3 hours, grind it with some water to a fluffy paste (it should be like fine rawa paste, but not like idli batter)
2.Add salt, chilli, jeera & chopped coriander, mix thoroughly.
3.Heat water in idli cooker, put big lemon size balls of urad dough in idli plates, press them with wet hands to form round discs and steam for 7 to 8 min (when you touch the dumpling with wet hands, it should not be sticky).
4.Remove from fire, serve the idli like aaviri kudumu with ginger chutney/coconut chutney.
5.This is a tasty and heavy breakfast (but without oil).
6.It is good for diabetics.

Preparation of ginger chutney:
•Fry chopped 2-inch piece of ginger, 2 green chillies, a pinch of jeera and 3 garlic cloves in 1 tsp of oil
•Make a fine paste with salt and 1/4 tsp of tamarind paste and a small piece of jaggery (omit jaggery for diabetics).
