This chutney / patchadi is very tasty and healthy.Goes very well with any rice preparations like kitchidi, pulav ,any break fast items like dosa,upma idli etc. The wonder herb mint / pudina has got many medicinal benefits.
Ingredients:
Mint / pudina – 100 Gms,
Tomato – 2,medium,chopped roughly,
Onion – 1, medium,chopped roughly,
Green chilli – 5,(prick with needle or cut each into two ),
Red chilli – 2,broken into pieces,
Peanuts – 2 Tablesp,dry fried and skin removed,
Mustard seeds – 1/4 Tsp,
Jeera – 2 pinches,
Curry leaves – 6 to 8,
Oil – 1 Tablesp,
Tamarind paste – 1 TSP,
Salt,
Peeled garlic – 4 cloves,
Channa dal – 1Tsp,
Method:
1).pick and wash pudina leaves.Drain out water completely.keep it aside.
2).Heat 2 tsp oil in a non stick pan add onion, green chilli, garlic, jeera, fry for a min and add mint leaves.Fry till the leaves change colour.
3).Add tomato pieces and fry them till they are soft and mushy.Add tamarind paste and salt.
4).Remove from fire and let it cool.
5).Grind the peanuts into a course powder. Add all the fried ingredients to it and grind the mix into a course paste.
6).Remove the prepared paste into a bowl.
7).Heat remaining oil, add mustard seeds, red chilli, Channa dal and curry leaves.Fry till seeds crackle and dal changes colour. Pour the tadka over prepared chutney, mix well and serve.
Tip:
For variation – Add some fresh or dessicated coconut while grinding , ( in place of peanuts ).Mix some well blended curd to it.Serve this raitha with rice preparations.
