Urad Dal Halwa

This delicious dessert with urad dal / whole urad is very tasty and can easily be prepared.This sweet is healthy too.
Ingredients:
Urad dal with out husk – 125 GMs,
Sugar – 125 GMs,
Cardamom powder – 1/4 Tsp,
Ghee – 3 Tablesp,
Almond slivers, cashew bits and raisins 1 Tablesp,( fried in a few drops of ghee ),
Milk – 400 ml,( heated and kept ready ),
Saffron – few threads,( mixed with a tsP of milk and kept ready ),
Method:
1).Dry fry the urad dal till nice aroma comes and colour changes to light golden.
2).Grind it in a mixie into a very fine rawa and keep it aside.
3).Heat milk with sugar and 1 tablesp of ghee in a thick bottomed pan . When milk starts boiling add the urad powder slowly ,stirring continuously to avoid lump formation.
4).Cook under low heat till the dal mix becomes a mass.Add remaining ghee along with cardamom powder and stir till the mass leaves the sides of the pan.Add saffron milk along with ghee.( if using ).
5).Garnish with nuts and raisins.It keeps fresh for 2 days.Better to consume fresh.
Tip:
a).You can adjust the sweetness according to your taste.
b).If you want to keep it ,2 to 3 days more , increase the quantity of ghee during the 4th step and Keep it in fridge till consumption.
c).you can substitute 1/3 rd quantity of milk with water.
