Vaakkaya patchadi/pickle

This is a tiny oval shaped berry ,known as Vaakkaya in Telugu,cranberry in English,karonda in Hindi and its scietific name is carissa carandas.This has got many medicinal properties and health benefits.This tiny berry is used in preparing pickles, dals and rice preparations.

Ingredients:

Unripe Vaakkaya – 200 Gms,

Red chilli powder – 1 and 1/2 Tablesp,

Salt – 2 Tablesp,

Hing – 2 pinches,

Mustard seeds – 1/2 Tsp,

Jeera – 1/2 Tsp,

Methi – A pinch

Mustard powder – 1/2 Tsp,

Peeled garlic cloves – 6 to 8,

Red chilli – 2,broken into bits,

Oil – 60 Ml,

Curry patta leaves – 10,

Method:

1).Wash fruits and pat dry them.Remove the seeds and Cut them into 2 to 4 pieces.Keep them aside,

2).Heat oil add mustard seeds,hing,methi,jeera,peeled garlic and curry leaves.Fry till mustard seeds crackle.

3).Add vaakkaya pieces ,cook for 2 min.

4).Add salt,chilli powder,haldi,mustard powder and mix well.Keep on fire for another min and remove.

5).Check salt.Serve this tangy and tasty pickle with Plain rice/curd rice.

6).Keeps and tastes good for 10 to 15 days if kept in fridge.
